A handmade constructivist/modernist wooden sculpture in primary colours, ca 1960. The artist is unknown. The design of the sculpture and its colours are very clearly inspired by Gerrit Rietveld, Piet Mondriaan e.o. from the art movement ''De Stijl''.
''De Stijl" is an influential art movement that emerged in the Netherlands at the beginning of the 20th century. The movement aimed to promote abstract art, especially abstract geometric shapes and colors. The artists strove for simplicity and universality in their work. Some well-known artists associated with De Stijl are Piet Mondriaan, Theo van Doesburg, and Gerrit Rietveld. They used primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and non-colors (white, black, gray) in combination with straight lines and rectangular shapes to create their works of art.
