Product Details
A large and heavy Egyptian Revival cat, cast in a dark-patinated metal alloy, modeled in the manner of the ancient Bastet figures of dynastic Egypt. This piece captures both elegance and presence: elongated legs, a finely arched back, and a delicately incised collar emphasize its ritual and decorative role. The form is inspired by the cult of Bastet — the Egyptian goddess associated with protection, fertility, and the domestic sphere — whose feline likeness was among the most iconic in pharaonic art.
This sculpture belongs to the great revival of Egyptomania that swept through Europe and America first in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly after the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922. It reflects the period’s fascination for ancient Egyptian forms.
Both decorative and symbolic, this large cat makes a commanding statement in eclectic or classic interiors. Condition is very good with minor signs of wear.
