Product Details
An unusual Dutch Art Deco side table from the 1920s, combining a circular silhouette with a strikingly architectural design. Its character comes from the interplay of vertical panels and projecting horizontal surfaces, balanced by the warm colour and expressive grain of the veneer.
The round top rests above a divided shelf , creating a rhythmic arrangement of open compartments. Beneath, intersecting panel supports give the table its modernist appearance, while angular cut-outs at their feet introduce a subtle decorative detail.
The design has an an aesthetically pleasing balance that recalls aspects of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie-period furniture. Its appeal lies in the thoughtful composition planes and open space, requiring little additional ornament.
Very nicely proportioned, the table is just large enough to serve as a practical side table, while its unisual form makes it a striking accent piece in a thoughtfully composed interior. Very heavy for its size and reassuringly sturdy, it has a presence beyond its modest dimensions. A rarely encountered model, equally appealing beside an armchair or displayed as a freestanding piece.
In good original condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with its history.
