Product Details
A rare, sculptural and richly decorated side table from the Amsterdam School period, dating to the 1920s. Its design showcases the expressive, architectural qualities that define Dutch Art Deco Amsterdam School furniture. The piece is hand made and veneered in beech wood. The octagonal top is supported by a tapering pedestal with strong geometric lines, and anchored by a matching octagonal base.
What sets this piece particularly apart, is the intricate carved detailing along the edges of both top and base: rhythmic notches and curved accents that create play between shadow and light, giving the table its sculptural presence. The warm, deep finish enhances the rich woodgrain of the veneer and emphasizes the craftsmanship of the period.
Compact in scale yet full of character, this table works equally as an accent in a hallway, a sculptural pedestal, or as a side table in a living space. A very ee catching, decorative example of Dutch Art Deco design, with a hint of the infectiously bizarreness of the Amsterdam School.
Some pictures added to illustrate how it could combine with a chandelier from the same period. Also pictures in rich sunlight to better see the condition of the piece.
Condition is very good and sturdy, with light wear and patina consistent with its age.
