Product Details
An Amsterdam School table from the Dutch Art Deco era, ca. 1920. Designed by P.E.L. Izeren for De Genneper Molen. Model nr. 301, documented in the Genneper Molen catalogue (see last two pictures)
One of the most iconic designs by Izeren and well documented. The tablelegs are pointed inwards, creating a stunning silhouet which comes across both bizarre as well as enchanting. The top has 4 quarters of oak veneer and a macassar ebony square in the middle.
The piece is made of solid oak, oak veneer and black stained leg ends. The table is in good original conditions with a small restoration on one of the legs and some small signs of the time. Structurally it is in perfect condition and quite a heavy piece.
P.E.L. Izeren (1886-1943) designed several pieces for 'De Genneper Molen'' and worked there until the late 1930s. The Genneper Mill was a sawmill, housed in an old water mill in the town of Gennep (in 1898). The name referred to the water wheel that initially powered the sawmill.
From around 1917 the sawmill started to manufacture small furniture such as small tables, umbrella stands, coat racks and tea cabinets. They called it ''supplementary furniture'' , as advertised in their catalogues. Soon this became the core business of the sawmill.
Designs for the Genneper Molen were quite similar and visibly influenced by the ''Haagse School'' architects (famous designers: Cor Alons, Frits Spanjaard and Hendrik Wouda).
