Product Details
Very rare 1920s Dutch Art Deco side table with an extraordinary modernist design, which makes it an interesting piece to look at from all different angles. Made from oak and macassar ebony (veneered on top). It has one drawer which is handmaid with artisanal dovetail joints.
The table is very sturdy and quite heavy (around the 12 kilograms)
The design of this table is attributed to P.E.L. Izeren for De Genneper Molen. This was confirmed by an expert in the field. It also has similarities to the Hague School designs by Cor Alons and Brunott. There are no makers' stamps or marks visible. The style of the table can be classified as Modernist or The Hague School (Haagse School). It also has some characteristics and similarities to Amsterdam School (f.i. the decorations in macassar ebony).
Tables like these don't come along very often and are very sought after by collectors of the Dutch modernist styles from the 1920s. It combines very well with other modernist pieces in the same style.
Considering age and use this piece is in very good condition, with only small signs of aging.
Dutch modernists were greatly influenced by American modernist architects like Frank Lloyd Wright. Which is clearly visible in this particular piece.
