Product Details
A Dutch Art Deco small side table, 1920s, in solid oak. It has a very decorative design with clean straight lines, which gives it a modernist appearance. Very suitable as an accent piece. Can also be used to display a statue or vase on.
The style is The Hague School but has some characteristics of Amsterdam School as well.
Considering age and use, the table is in very good condition. It is well made, in heavy solid oak and it stands very stable (also due to the design). There are some signs of the time, if one looks very closely there is a slight bend in the tabletop. This is hardly visible.
Background information The Hague School
In the 1920s, a style of architecture and furniture design emerged in The Hague that would become known as Haagse School. More cubist and functional than the imaginative Amsterdam School style, but with some similarities as well.
After the First World War, young designers such as Hendrik Wouda, Cor Alons and J. Brunott developed their own modern interior design. For inspiration they chose the work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and combined their idiosyncratic preferences with the commercial requirements in furniture design of that time. The result was the now well-known Dutch 'Hague School' style with its recognizable forms and shapes.
