Product Details

Dutch Art Deco occasional table or side table, late 1920s to early 1930s, in solid oak with modernist lines. It is quite an unusual and stylish design with a modernist twist.

The style is more The Hague School but has some characteristics of Amsterdam School as well.
Considering its age, this table is in very good condition. The wood has been freshly waxed. In the 1920s, a style of architecture and furniture design emerged in The Hague that would become known as Haagse School. More cubist and functional than the imaginative Amsterdam School style, but with some similarities as well.
After the First World War, young designers such as Hendrik Wouda, Cor Alons and J. Brunott developed their own modern interior design. For inspiration they chose the work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and combined their idiosyncratic preferences with the commercial requirements in furniture design of that time. The result was the now well-known Dutch 'Hague School' style with its recognizable forms and shapes.
