Product Details
A rare designed Dutch Art Deco hexagonal floor lamp The Hague School period, c. 1920. The piece is made of oak and macassar ebony veneer. Design is reminiscent of the street lanterns of the time. To design a lamp that looks like a street lantern must have been quite unusual at the time! We haven't seen another one like this before.
The wood is original, in good condition and unrestored, the shade (which comes out) has been reupholstered.
The lamp has been professionally rewired and has a European plug.
''Haagse School'' (The Hague School) stands for the luxurious and modern design style that manifested itself in 1920s The Hague, Netherlands. The Hague School is a variant of Art Deco. The style is recognizable by the straight and geometric shapes of the furniture that reflect the architecture of the time. The Hague School is often seen as a mix of Berlage's rationalism, the traditional Arts and Crafts Movement, the interiors of Frank Lloyd Wright, Rietveld and the avant-garde movement De Stijl.
