A large Dutch 1920s floorlamp with a modernist constructivist design, as well as some characteristics of the Amsterdamse/Haagse School. Made in solid oak and macassar ebony with a stepped design on the four sides of the base. Keeping in mind that this object was designed in the 1920s it is remarkable that the shape of the base almost looks like a vessel from the vintage computer game Space Invaders! This base measures 50 x 50 cm.
The lamp comes with a large custom made lampshade (55-60 cm wide and 45 cm in height). Works with one lightbulb (E27). Electric wiring renewed. The lamp has a European plug
This lampbase is depicted as model no.263 in the Genneper Molen catalogue no. 3 (from 1920s). These lamps were originally sold without the lampshade.
The modernist ideology can be called anti-traditional. The modernists saw their designs as a break with the traditions of art, in which the ornaments used often had a historical origin. Especially after the First World War, the modernists started to rebel against these traditional ideas and forms of art and architecture, to better reflect the modern industrialized society. This led to innovative designs with a more modern and rationalist appearance.
