Product Details
A stylish pewter vase with an Amsterdam School design, Daalderop, The Netherlands, c. 1925. Signed underneath with the Daalderop stamp from the 1920s. Now over 100 years old, the vase has survived in good condition, showing only gentle wear consistent with age. Its pewter surface has developed a rich patina with a soft, silvery sheen, enhancing both its visual depth and historic character.
The vase has a cylindrical body with a slightly flared rim, creating a refined silhouette. Around the central section, small rounded balls add a subtle geometric accent. The base is particularly striking, featuring repeating pointed and spherical motifs that give the piece a sense of dynamism and texture, almost like stylized architectural ornament.
Stamped on the underside with Daalderop’s 1920s maker’s mark, this piece is a rare and authentic example of their work in the Amsterdam School idiom.
Daalderop is best known for producing a range of decorative objects in metal during the early 20th century, but only a select few were made in the Amsterdam School style. This makes the present vase not only a decorative object of striking presence, but also a rare collectible for enthusiasts of Dutch design.
The Daalderop factory was founded in 1880 by J.N. Daalderop. SInce the early years they produced household items like tableware, pots and dishes, kettles, and gas lamps. The family business was under the undisputed leadership of Johan Daalderop (1883-1961). Until the Second World War their most important designer was Meine Huisenga. Klaas van Aken was also one of the designers.
It is known that the style of their products at some point started evolving towards that Art Deco and the Amsterdam School, but pieces with these kind of charactericts - decorative bullets - are rather scarce and sought after. The more common pieces with a less pronounced style are still commonly found in many Dutch households.
