A very high quality solid oak coffeetable with shelves on all sides and big black feet, Amsterdam School period, c. 1920. The design is very similar to designs by Paul Bromberg. It was definitely made by one of the high end furniture makers of the time. We could'nt find an actual catalogue picture but 4 out of 5 experts we've consulted, told us the design is most probably by Paul Bromberg.
The table is quite large and with the extraordinary design it's very suitable as a statement piece. It looks different from each angle and it has character and personality. The condition is excellent, it's been professionally refinished, very stable and with a lovely woodgrain.
''Amsterdam School'' is a collective name for the exuberant, imaginative and innovative design style from the period 1910-1930 by a diverse group of Dutch architects, interior designers and sculptors. Influential architects and designers include Michel De Klerk, Hildo Krop, Piet Kramer en J.M. van der Meij.
The Amsterdam School embodies several contradictions. It is an architecture that is instantly recognisable yet difficult to define. It celebrates the communal and the social yet gives almost infinite room for individual expression. It can look hyper-modern yet curiously medieval. And, at its most creative, it can be utterly, infectiously bizarre.
