Product Details
A beautifully proportioned Dutch Art Deco accent table executed in solid oak, dating from the 1920s. Modest in scale yet remarkably present, this piece has the quiet authority of well-resolved design: restrained, architectural, and full of subtle detail.
This elegant piece distills an architectural way of thinking into a compact scale. Its composition is economical, but far from plain: every line feels considered, every proportion resolved.
The square top rests on four slender legs that are gently stepped just beneath the apron, a small but telling intervention that gives the table a more refined, rhythmic silhouette. Most striking are the black-stained feet, an unusual and highly characterful detail that lends the piece a sharper modernist accent. They read almost like punctuation marks at the base, grounding the warm oak with a crisp visual contrast.

The oak has developed a beautiful, rich tone over time, and the table has been wonderfully preserved, with a warm surface and a very honest presence. A rare survival in this condition, and an excellent example of small-scale Dutch modernist furniture from the interwar period.

The piece is in very good condition with minimal signs of age and use, consistent with time. Wonderfully preserved overall.

Background information Amsterdam School

''The Amsterdam School'' stands for the Dutch architectural movement that flourished between 1910 and 1940. The movement influenced other art forms and furniture designs. Some characteristics of the Amsterdam School include expressionist and organic shapes, decorative sculptural elements and a focus on craftsmanship.
''Amsterdam School'' is a collective name for the exuberant, imaginative and innovative design style by a diverse group of Dutch architects, interior designers and sculptors. Influential architects and designers include Michel De Klerk, Hildo Krop, Piet Kramer en J.M. van der Meij.
The Amsterdam School embodies several contradictions. It is an architecture that is instantly recognisable yet difficult to define. It celebrates the communal and the social yet gives almost infinite room for individual expression. It can look hyper-modern yet curiously medieval. And, at its most creative, it can be utterly, infectiously bizarre.
Amsterdam School architects designed a lot of exteriors and interiors in Amsterdam, but the style spreaded further all around the Netherlands. The Hague has its own variant, called The Hague School.
