Product Details
A Dutch Amsterdam School occasional table in oak, dating from the 1920s.
The design has a particularly strong architectural stance. The circular top rests on four substantial supports, each built with paired upright elements: flat structural legs combined with rounded double columns placed to the outside. This gives the table a very steady, grounded presence.
The lower stretcher construction reinforces this sense of stability. Seen from the side, the legs form open arched shapes, softening the geometry.
The top has a geometric oak veneer pattern, arranged in contrasting directions so the grain catches the light differently across the surface. The colour is a deep dark brown with a warm reddish hue, giving the table a rich and rather atmospheric character.
Tables of this type were sold in the Netherlands during the interwar period through furniture shops and larger department stores such as De Bijenkorf and V&D. They brought the Amsterdam School idiom into domestic interiors: useful, sturdy furniture with a decorative and architectural identity.
The table is in good condition with small signs of age and use consistent with its period. The surface has been lightly restored and waxed, preserving its original character while giving the wood renewed depth.
A decorative and very usable Amsterdam School table, suitable as a side table or centre table.
